8/16 – Rob Knight’s “Tropical Air Mass” Morning Forecast

There is plenty of activity starting up this morning near and offshore. Movement over the gulf will be toward shore but as showers/t-storms move onshore, that forward motion will stall.

Conditions are getting better for waterspouts as well.

Numbers for microbursts are fairly high today west of the Pearl River. With that said, an isolated one or two severe thunderstorm with damaging straight line winds will be possible mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours.

As deeper moisture settles into the area, the microburst numbers will lower and we should see the normal summertime thunderstorms each day into next week. Some of these could become strong each day, but there will be much smaller chances of severe thunderstorms. A cold front looks to settle either over the area or just north. Either way, this feature will keep our rain chances elevated through mid-week next week and possibly into the end of the week.
