6/15 – Payton’s Thursday Afternoon Forecast

The tropical airmass that has been sitting over the area for the past week remains in place today through tomorrow, which will continue the rain chances for the afternoon hours. Some of these storms could be strong with gusty winds, lightning, and heavy downpours. An area of high pressure that was centered over Georgia has started to move south and will continue to do so before eventually moving further west over the Gulf of Mexico. Because of this rain chances will decrease just slightly as we head into the weekend. I do expect at least some showers on Father’s Day along with warm temperatures in upper 80s to low 90s. It will also be very humid.

The beginning of next week looks drier across much of the area with just slight rain chances during the afternoon hours. An area of low pressure is expected to develop in the Caribbean toward the weekend and move northwest into the Gulf of Mexico toward Mexico. While still far out, moisture from this system could push into our area toward the end of next week, which could give us decent rain chances. This is still very far out, so we will continue to fine tune the details as we head into next week. Temperatures for the next seven days will be right around normal with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 70s.
