6/11 – Rob’s “Sunny & Pleasant” Thursday Afternoon Forecast

An area of high-pressure was located over the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley. Surface dew-point values ranged from the lower 60s across southwest Mississippi to near 70f around the Mississippi Delta. Upper air analysis showed a trough axis from Lake Superior to Tennessee Valley, creating a northwest flow over the Plains and west flow over mid-Mississippi Valley. A broad ridge was located over west Texas creating a light northwest flow over the Lower Mississippi Valley.

Upper level trough will shift east and allow the ridge over Texas to build over the Plains through Friday. As a result, northwest flow will maintain dry weather through Friday. Several disturbances will dive south on the back side of existing trough from Lake Superior to the Tennessee Valley over the weekend. This feature will maintain dry and warm conditions. A dry backdoor cold front will push through the forecast area Sunday afternoon. A slow modification of the air mass will occur over the weekend but Sunday front will lower morning lows on Monday and Tuesday.
