5/9 – Rob Knight’s “TORNADO WATCH” Afternoon Forecast
We will be moving into a much wetter pattern for the next several days, with at least one round of potentially severe weather, and likely multiple rounds of heavy rainfall. Southwesterly upper flow will continue across the lower Mississippi River Valley through Saturday and likely into Sunday. As impulses move through this flow, waves of showers and thunderstorms will move through much of Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
The SPC has the area under a Slight/Marginal Risk for severity today into tonight.
First round of thunderstorms should not produce any widespread flooding issues. Beyond this afternoon/evening, location of boundary and threat area will have to be watched to identify areas for greatest potential. Guidance is currently indicating the potential for of 3-5 inches across through Sunday. At some point in the next couple of days, the NWS will likely end up issuing a Flash Flood Watch for some portion of the area.
