4/25 – Rob Knight’s Mid-Week “Morning News” Forecast

The first of two cold fronts is on its way this morning as it moves through Nebraska. The attendant cold front will move through with some showers Thursday morning while there is the possibility of a few embedded thunderstorms over the northern most portion of the area as well.Severe thunderstorm activity, if any, should stay north and east of our area. The second cold front will be quick on the heels of this one and should move through Friday. It is currently located over northern Canada. This will also help keep the area in a rather cool and a mostly dry forecast. There is very little moisture associated with it, but the strong dynamic lift will cause layer lifting which in turn causes instability of these layers and high enough moisture levels to produce rainfall. Models are supportive of hail with any thunderstorm activity that is capable of getting started. So of the two systems, the one having the best opportunity of having strong or a severe thunderstorm with it will be the Friday system. While this system is moving through, stability will increase along with more dry air moving in. This will cause thunderstorms to decay as they move through the area Friday.

Expect a BEAUTIFUL weekend with warm air and moisture to begin to returning to the area by the start of the new week. This could lead to some showers moving in from the gulf by Tuesday and Wednesday. There is some indication of a large slow moving cold front possibly affecting the area by the end of next week.
