A cold front overhead will move off the coasts early this morning into the coastal waters during the morning hours and then into the north Gulf today. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms were being observed across the forecast area, primarily behind the boundary.
Much cooler conditions will be observed today and into the weekend with clouds lingering across most of the area today and Saturday before clearing on Sunday. Weak impulses embedded in the southwest to west-southwest flow aloft will bring a threat of showers to the forecast area through Saturday, with the best chances tonight and Saturday morning.
An extended period of tranquil weather is in store for the forecast area during upcoming workweek with temperatures running below normal for the first half of it. The cooler airmass over the area this weekend will be reinforced early next week as mid/upper disturbance over the northeast conus. High-pressure will then shift eastward across the Mississippi Valley and southeast U.S. during the latter half of the week resulting in temperatures moderating to near normal levels.
