10/10 – Payton’s Wednesday Morning Forecast
Waking up this morning a few showers off to the east, but for the most part South Mississippi is dry. Hurricane Michael continues to show signs of strengthening as it approaches the Panama City, FL area. It is forecast to make landfall around lunchtime as a category 4 storm with winds of 145 mph. This will likely be a catastrophic event for the Florida Panhandle. For South Mississippi we’ll be on the west side, which will be considerably drier and calmer. We’ll have the chance to see tropical downpours and gusty winds, but the tropical storm force winds should stay just off to our east. A small craft advisory for the sound and open waters. A cold front will start to move into the area tonight, and it will bring fall weather for the remainder of the week into the weekend. Moisture will return Sunday ahead of another cold front, which will increase rain chances slightly Sunday into Monday. The front moves through Monday into Tuesday and expect more fall-like weather next week.
