01/06 Ryan’s “Frigid” Friday Afternoon Forecast

So far it’s been a downright frigid Friday and that will lead to multiple issues along the Gulf Coast tonight. While any frozen precipitation is expected to largely remain North of the six coastal counties, there remains a small chance we could see some sleet or freezing rain for a few minutes. Regardless, all the rain we’ve gotten today won’t pair well with our low of 29 degrees and and a “hard freeze” is expected. This means that solid ice will be forming on roadways and overpasses and could even become “black ice” which is hard to see while driving. Unnecessary travel is not recommended, and anyone who must should take extra precautions and avoid bridges/overpasses as much as possible. We’ll remain in the 20s for much of the evening and early morning hours, but temperatures will rebound quickly after sun up but only into the low 40s. Expect another brutally cold evening Saturday night as well, but ice formation will be less of a concern after a day of drying.
