Work begins on phase two of new Pascagoula police substation
Pascagoula is starting work on phase two of a $3.5 million project to expand police services in the eastern half of the city.
That substation is being built out of a converted gas station at the corner of Old Mobile Highway and Chicot Street.
City leaders say the project will support public safety and future growth in East Pascagoula.
Deputy Police Chief John Lynd says it will also make services easier to reach for residents who now have to drive across town to the main police station on the west side. “Being able to serve the public on that side, they’ll be able to come in and pay fines or pick up reports or file reports. There’s just no sense in them having to drive all the way over here, so it’ll actually increase our manpower and our response times.”
The project is funded through legislative appropriations and community development block grant funds, allowing the city to move forward without taking on additional debt.
