What’s New for Cruisin’

It draws thousands of people from across the country every year and this year will be no different. Cruisin’ the Coast organizers say we’re on pace for a record setting event. While you can expect many of the same popular attractions, organizers are gearing up for some news ones, too.
Cruisin’ the Coast has come a long way since its first year when 300 cars came to the Coast back in 1996. Next week, 7,500 beautiful cars will line Highway 90 for Cruisin’ the Coast. Last year saw such an interest in the motor cross that this year will feature an extra day. Cruisin’ the Coast Coordinator Woody Bailey said, “That was a popular event, a first time event last year. So there will be another day for actually testing on the course Monday afternoon.”
Cruisers will come from all over for this celebration of cars. There are cars from 43 states and Canada already registered. Cruisers can also expect to see a new player in this year’s event. The ‘Salute to Veterans’ will move to MGM Park. Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “What more Americana can you get than a salute to our veterans. We are going to have antique and classic cruisers lining the warning field inside the park.”
Cruisin’ organizers are also excited to announce Dennis Gage from “My Classic Car” will be at Cruisin’ again this year with his camera crew. “Dennis is going to be filming an episode of this show which will feature the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We’re excited about that,” said Bailey.
Bailey tells News 25 that the beauty of the week-long event is that you don’t have to live and breathe cars to enjoy it, there’s something for everyone. “There’s so much going on. Just to see this whole event unfold is pretty neat in itself with all the entertainment, all the cars. It just puts everybody in a great frame of mind.”
Cruisin’ the Coast officially gets cranked up Sunday with the annual “Cruise In” at Gulfport’s Hardy Court and the “View the Cruise” block party in downtown Gulfport.
