West Harrison bass fishing team brings home state title

Members of the West Harrison High School bass fishing team reeled in quite an impressive catch over the weekend.

Even though the team only consists of two members, they were able to hook their third state champion title at the Mississippi High School Bass Masters state championship. The team competed against 35 other schools and earned points by adding up the weight of their entire catch from six tournaments.

Junior James Willoughby created the Bass Club three years ago and tells News 25 he hopes to continue his love for fishing at the next level. “Hopefully I can get a scholarship in college and compete in college just because it is a way to get out in the world and it is just another way to compete that is not football or baseball and stuff like that. It feels great because I got to start it and see where it is going and I wish we had some more people on the team because other schools have like 20 or 30 teams at other schools.”

In 2017, West Harrison also took home the title of Bass Master Mississippi School of the Year.
