Weekly Baseball Luncheon Wraps Up
It’s game over for the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” series in Biloxi.
Biloxi native and former Major League Baseball catcher Barry Lyons gave an overview of all the baseball stars that have hit the Coast to speak at the weekly luncheon.
The All-Star Speaker Series luncheon at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum hosted many baseball greats, like Darryl Strawberry and Dale Murphy, as well as local stars of the game such Tim Bennett from the Shuckers and New York Yankees pitcher Jonathan Holder.
Lyons talked about how the theme of the series really came down to baseball as a brotherhood and a lot of the speakers shared how easy it is to go downhill after rising to the top in the Major Leagues. “It’s hard to get to the big leagues, but it’s even harder to stay.”
Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art Director Kevin O’Brien said, “We really learned through this whole lecture series was what they did with their lives after baseball. I think a lot of them felt as though they were a much better person because they got to think about other people and you know, when your own top of the world and you’re a big baseball player, you’re thinking of yourself.”
Lyons award Buddy from Biloxi, a fan that came every week, with the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” logo.
WXXV has been a proud sponsor since the beginning of the series back in May.
