VGA National Championship

The Veterans Golfers Association’s National Championship Tournament is underway at the Fallen Oak Golf Club.
Eighty-four veterans from 44 states are in town, competing for the title of champion and enjoying each other’s company out on the course. The highest ranking veteran among those golfers is a retired three star general.
Aaron Ojard and his good friend, Joshua Peyton, formed the Veterans Golfers Association in 2014 as a way for soldiers to cope with integrating back into society after returning home from combat zones. “Our mission is just promoting camaraderie among veterans, family members, and combat wounded veterans, using the game of golf to enrich their lives through competition. The stories I hear anytime I get to a major tournament with guys I haven’t met yet, gals I haven’t met yet, the common theme is thank you to you and Josh for creating an organization that saved my life,” said Ojard.
The tournament will continue tomorrow, wrapping up around 3:30 p.m. as a champion is crowned.
