Upgrades coming to Mississippi Coast Coliseum

The installation of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum’s new roof coating this summer was only the beginning of upcoming improvements being made to the 42-year-old building.

Within the next year more upgrades are in the works, including an all-new LED video scoreboard, a VIP lounge, and an all new production grid.

The VIP lounge is planned to be named ‘The Locker Room,’ and will give guests an upscale experience with a private bar and bathrooms.

The new production grid will take the arena setup capabilities to the next level, allowing the Coast Coliseum to host bigger and better shows.

All four projects are expected to be completed sometime in 2020, with the new scoreboard being completed by mid-December.

These upgrades are funded by a $3.2 million grant from Governor Bryant back in 2016. Coast Coliseum Executive Director Matt McDonnell said, “We’ve got to be competitive, that’s the key. There are facilities that are around us that are a lot newer, that are a lot more user friendly in terms of their architectural style. So, what we have to do is to make the improvements and utilize the resources that are available to us in the best way possible.”

Crews were also out at the Coliseum today getting the ice ready for the skating rink, which will see upgrades soon as well. Ice skating sessions will begin on November 8th.
