Update on officer-involved shooting in Gulfport

Now to an update on the officer-involved shooting first reported yesterday in Gulfport.

The victim, now identified as Henry Frankowski III, died after being sent to the hospital Thursday evening.

The shooting happened outside a Dollar Tree on 25th Avenue in Downtown Gulfport. Just before 3 p.m. police received reports of a homeless man abusing an animal and acting irate. When two officers approached the male suspect, he pointed a firearm towards them, and two officers fired their weapons at the man.

He was sent to the hospital, but later died of his injuries. His body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

The officers involved were not injured but were placed on administrative leave.

Gulfport Police Chief Chris Ryle says multiple agencies will be involved in the investigation of this incident.
