Two Southern Miss alumni heading to the Super Bowl
A touch of Black and Gold to a Super Bowl with a lot of red, Southern Miss will have two representatives when the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 54.
What a moment it is for both quarterback Nick Mullens and free safety Tarvarius Moore, who now share a locker room for the second time in San Francisco.
They’re looking to become the first former Golden Eagles to win the big game since Jamie Collins with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 49.
Here’s Mullens following San Francisco’s 37-20 demolition of the Green Bay Packers in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game. “It’s been incredible. It’s been an incredible ride for the Niners since Coach (Kyle) Shanahan and (General Manager) John Lynch got here. They’ve done an incredible job of starting from scratch, what was that 2017? And just to see it fully evolve, get some good players in here and just the chemistry of the team being led by John and Kyle, it’s incredible. This is the vision, and they’ve done an incredible job of implementing all the things that we need to do to get to the Super Bowl.”
Super Bowl 54 will kick off from Miami at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd.
Other players in this year’s big game from the Magnolia State include a Chiefs trio from Starkville in Pro Bowler Chris Jones, Mississippi Gulf Coast Alum Martinas Rankin, who is currently on injured reserve, and practice squad member Braxton Hoyett.
Then two more from Ole Miss, those being Breeland Speaks of the Chiefs and DJ Jones of the 49ers, both of whom are also on injured reserve.
