Twins hire Derek Shelton as bench coach

The Minnesota Twins will have a new bench coach next season.

The Twins have hired former Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays hitting coach Derek Shelton to fill the position, the team announced Monday.

Shelton spent the 2017 season as the Toronto Blue Jays’ quality control coach, and was the Indians’ hitting coach from 2005-09, filling the same role with the Tampa Bay Rays from 2010-16.

Shelton began his coaching career in 1997 as a member of the New York Yankees’ organization.
