Torch Run For State Games Of Mississippi

Let the games begin for the 25 annual state games of Mississippi. Earlier this morning Jourdyn Combs ran the lit torch in her hometown of Gulfport to honor the games. Combs was selected as athlete of the year in 1999 and ran the torch at the opening ceremonies in 2000. She is the only female athlete of the year from Gulfport in the history of the state games. Gulfport was only one stop in the torch run but Combs is proud to represent her hometown here on the coast. Jourdyn Combs  told News 25, “I am the only female from Gulfport that’s ever been  chosen so I’m honored to represent Gulfport. They’re very happy they’re all here with me to support me. It means a lot to me it’s been a big part of my childhood and I’m very honored.” The final stop for the torch run will be in meridian on June 17th. The opening ceremonies will include a parade of athletes and lighting of the main state game torch.
