Toddler shot with air rifle while playing with brother in Mobile County
A 13-year-old is in a youth detention center in Mobile County after allegedly shooting and killing his three-year-old brother on accident.
The sheriff’s department says EMS rushed to a home in Grand Bay, Alabama around midnight. The three-year-old was taken to a hospital and a CT scan showed a projectile had entered the child’s head above the right eye.
Authorities say the parents thought the child had fallen and injured his head, but the 13-year-old told a relative they were playing ‘cops and robbers’ when he grabbed a 22-caliber air rifle from a closet.
That’s when he pointed at the toddler and fired. We’re told the boy didn’t know the air gun was loaded.
A neighbor, who is devasted by the news, says she saw the children playing outside together often. “I have a two-year-old granddaughter, and I can’t imagine how they really feel. My heart and my love and all my thoughts and prayers are out to them right this moment, and they will be for hereafter, as they lay him to rest, everything they’re going through, the devastation.”
The teen is at a youth detention center charged with criminally negligent homicide.
