The heat should back off a little by the weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tonight will be mostly clear with temperatures dropping into the low 70s, and Thursday will be another mostly sunny day with a high around 91.

Clouds will be increasing by the afternoon and we may see a couple pop up showers, but most places will continue to stay dry.

The bigger changes arrive on Friday, when highs top out in the upper 80s. Friday night could be one of the cooler nights of this stretch, with temperatures falling into the mid and upper 60s.

Highs will stay slightly warmer than normal, in the upper 80s, through Saturday with mostly sunny skies and a little less humidity.

Sunday warms back into the low 90s, and then a few rain chances will creep back into the forecast early next week.

There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday, with rain chances increasing by Tuesday night into Wednesday.
