Stone High band needs your help in the Manilow Music Project
The Stone High School band is competing against other bands from across the country in a competition that is overseen by Barry Manilow and the prize is a $100,000 for new instruments.
Right now, duct tape is holding together tubas and zip-ties are keeping parts of trumpets secure, but this does not stop the band members at Stone High School, they still find a way to make music with instruments in any condition.
To take part in the contest, students had to put together a ten minute video saying why they need this money which was easy for members of the Pride Band since most of their instruments are at least two decades older than those playing them. One tuba even dates back to 1961. Band member Valeria Cruz said, “Band is such an amazing thing that we do. It teaches us how to be leaders and it teaches us how to do many things and we have been struggling for about ten to 20 years now on how to get money and we are just kind of like one big family. We just need the money so we can do bigger and better things.”
The Pride Band cannot win without your vote. Head over to manilowmusicproject.org to vote. Voting closes tonight at midnight.
