State Senator Joel Carter comments on Twitter backlash

Mississippi State Senator Joel Carter of Gulfport responded to WXXV today about the tweet he made regarding the Chinese balloon that flew over the country over the weekend.

Carter posted a photo of a balloon on February 4th with the words “weather barroon, totary not for spying” scrawled across it.

Comments say he is mocking Asian accents. One commenter asked “Does the R in your name stand for racist?”

WXXV reached out to Carter who sent this comment in response: “It was a joke. It’s a sad day in America when you can’t be lighthearted and laugh. My post was directed at the lack of action by the Biden Administration and the brazen acts of communist China. I respect all Americans”
