Sophia Myers Passes Away
Hundreds of people across the Coast start the day with a heavy heart after learning about the passing of 7-year-old, Sophia Myers. According to a Facebook post from her mom, Angel Myers, Sophia ended her long battle with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) at 12:01 Friday morning.
The post reads, “She fought and struggled for 15 hours and made sure she didn’t die on Josh’s (Sophia’s father) birthday. She is the most amazing child and I am lost without her.”
The median overall survival of children diagnosed with DIPG is less than a year, according to medical statistics. Less than two percent of children, typically ranging from ages six to 10, survive it. The thoughts and prayers of the entire News 25 team go out to the Myers family.
