Snap Benefits Cut Off Today
Beginning today, many Mississippians will have their SNAP Food Assistance benefits cut.
A law passed in January requires adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who do not have children to either find a job or enroll in a training or education program in order to be eligible for benefits.
Those that do not meet the requirements will only receive three months of benefits within a 36 month period.
Exemptions to the law include pregnant women, people who work 20 hours or more a week or those who are determined to be mentally or physically unable to work.
Mississippi joins 21 other states cutting SNAP assistance.
