Shoplifting suspect dead in Biloxi

One man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Biloxi this morning.
Officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Home Depot on Cedar Lake Road shortly before 8 a.m. After receiving a suspect and vehicle description, officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect continued to drive away and traveled down a dirt road, sparking a high speed chase.
Officers then tried to tase the suspect, but he continued to flee the scene near Camp Wilkes Road. Major Christopher De Back said, “Officers tried to stop him and attempted to tase him. At that point, he still did not stop, he was fleeing. Officers were out. Officer did discharge his weapon and the suspect was struck. He is now deceased.”
Biloxi police describe the suspect as a 61-year-old white man from Biloxi. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation in this officer involved shooting.
