Sergio Sandoval Rushed to Hospital on Day Two of Trial
Sergio Sandoval, the former Ocean Springs School District bus driver accused of sexually abusing a student, was rushed to the hospital this morning before trial was set to resume.
Sandoval reportedly fainted in the stairwell and was taken by ambulance to Singing River Hospital around 8 o’clock this morning. Medical reports turned into the judge stated his episode was stress related. He was released from the hospital.
The trial was reset for 1 o’clock today. Sandoval came back into the courtroom in a wheelchair shortly before 1 o’clock. When Sandoval said he started to feel ill he was taken back to the hospital.
Defense attorney Jim Davis requested a mistrial after the medical episode, explaining his client was incompetent to stand trial. Prosecutors pointed out he started crying when asked if he knew why he was in court, arguing that meant he understood the nature of the case. The motion was denied.
Trial is reset for 7:45 Thursday morning following a psychological evaluation.
