Senator Wicker on taking down Confederate statues

As Confederate statues continue to come down all over the country, Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker says the monuments in Mississippi should stay.
Senator Wicker was the guest speaker at the Biloxi Business Men’s meeting at Mary Mahoney’s today. After giving a brief report to the crowd, Senator Wicker shared his take on the controversial topic.
Senator Wicker tells News 25 he hates to see Confederate statues being removed throughout the country and he says America needs to be educated on what these monuments represent. “As the Civil War ended, at Appomattox Courthouse, it was Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant that really made the first real significant action in bringing our nation together. I think we’ll make decisions in Mississippi to keep our history on display.”
Senator Wicker tells News 25 instead of removing the Confederate statues we should be celebrating the great Americans the monuments were named after.
