Search and Rescue Protocol

The Coast Guard continues to lead the rescue operation for the three passengers and the plane. But what is the standard protocol for search and rescue missions?
Each situation is different, depending on the land, sea or air elements involved. Each department is trained to work together to rescue as many people as possible. As is the case in the disappearance of this plane and it’s three passengers. Melissa Scallan with DMR Public Information said, “We have resources in the water, we have a dive team. We were called in, Jackson County Sheriff has resources. It just depends on what the situation is as to who gets called first, but we all work together so that’s the most important thing.”
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration joined the local teams in the search.
