Scholarship and grants awarded to Women in Construction program in Biloxi

The Southeastern Construction Owners and Associates Roundtable, the Southern States Millwright Regional Council, and DeWalt presented a grant and scholarship tool package to the Moore Community House Women in Construction program in Biloxi.

SCOAR funded a $4,500 grant to the program and the SSMRC funded a tool package valued at more than a thousand dollars to Alisha King, a pre-apprentice enrolled in the Women in Construction program.

DeWalt made a donation of tools to support the program as well as the scholarship package.

The Women in Construction program is designed to train low-income women for high-wage, high-skill careers in the construction trades. King said, “To come into Women in Construction knowing that they will teach you and give you your basics into going into a field in the industry.”

The scholarship committee selected Ms. King based on instructor recommendations and her video essay outlining career goals and how the scholarship package would make a difference in her life.
