Round Island Lighthouse in Pascagoula now back open to guests

After six months of being shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Round Island Lighthouse in Pascagoula finally reopened to the public on Monday.

The original lighthouse sat just three miles offshore from the mouth of the Pascagoula River. In 2010, the structure was moved off of the island and to the foot of the Pascagoula River Bridge.

Visitors can now once again visit the lighthouse in small groups and learn about its long history. City of Pascagoula Public Information Officer Katarina Luketich said, “So the tours are a great way to stay socially distanced. You can really give yourself your own tour. Go in, take a look around the lighthouse. The tour guide is there at the bottom to answer any questions you may have. The Round Island Lighthouse is such a good piece of history here in Pascagoula. We really do encourage everyone to go check it out. Tours are Friday and Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. You don’t have to have a reservation to go. Just show up. The tour guide downstairs will tell you a little bit about the lighthouse and then you can take yourself through up to the top.”

Masks are required while touring the lighthouse and small groups are encouraged.
