Red Snapper season starts today in state waters
Beginning today, Mississippi’s recreational anglers will be allowed to harvest red snapper in state waters through September 4th.
The bag limit will be two red snappers per person per day with a minimum size of 16 inches. The federal government in December 2015 approved the extension of state waters to nine nautical miles, an extension that is now permanent.
If you are fishing in state waters for red snapper, anglers must create a profile and start a trip. You must have a trip number when you are out on the water and you must report your catch and close out one trip before creating a new one.
Earlier this month, NOAA announced the federal season for private recreational anglers will be just three days between June 1st and the 4th.
