Rally to Change Mississippi State Flag Set for Sunday in Jackson

A South Carolina state representative and a Civil Rights activist are scheduled to lead a march and rally on Sunday in our state’s capital in support of an initiative to remove the Confederate battle emblem from the Mississippi state flag.
The march is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. in Jackson with the rally going on until 5 p.m. at the steps of the state Capitol building.
South Carolina Representative Jenny Horne, who made national news after she gave an impassioned speech on the floor of the South Carolina State House about removing the flag from its Capitol, will attend Sunday’s event.
Initiative 55 is a petition driving to gain enough signatures to put a measure on the ballot to remove the Confederate emblem from the state flag.
Due to the late push, the earliest the issue could be placed on the ballot would be 2018.
