Public hearing offers residents information Interconnecting Gulfport project

The city of Gulfport is offering public meetings so the public can learn more about a planned transportation project to provide alternate travel routes from Airport Road and Creosote Road intersections to Landon Road along the Highway 49 corridor

Gulfport was awarded a 2019 USDOT BUILD Grant for the project.

The plan calls for an extension of Airport Road west of Highway 49 to create a new route over Interstate 10 near the Gulfport Premium Outlets that would allow access to Landon Road on the north side of the interstate.

The idea of the extension is to alleviate congestion at the busy Landon Road intersection at Highway 49, as well as at Creosote Road, where the turnoff to Premium Outlets is to the west.

Environmental studies are under way and a public hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. today at the Gulfport Premium Outlets Food Court. The public is invited to come and go during the hearing to view project exhibits and to speak to representatives about the project.

There will be no formal presentations, but citizens are encouraged to review the material available and make written and/or recorded statements that will become part of the permanent record.
