Post 119 Raises $28,000 for 2016

The battle for giving is still being fought at the American Legion Post 119 in Gulfport.
As Post 119 welcomes in the new year, Gulfport’s American Legion has raised around $28,000 for veterans, the homeless, and multiple programs aimed at benefitting our community.
Today, their kitchen reopened with new menu prices for 2017. The money made continues to help out vets in need throughout the area.
The commander at Post 119 says even though the giving season has come to an end it’s still important to extend a hand to those who need it most. Terry Applebee with Post 119 said, “You can see it in their eyes. They appreciate everything we do for them. They think they’ve been forgotten and they haven’t been. We do the best we can to help them. A lot of people don’t realize what veterans have done for our country. I think our country needs to just give back a little help to them.”
The American Legion will be hosting a po-boy fundraiser for homeless veterans on January 12th. Post 119 is taking orders now.
