Police officers cleared in 2018 shooting death

Police in an officer-involved shooting in Gulfport have been cleared.

The shooting happened on March 3rd, 2018. Forty-one year-old Marvin Ray McMillian died in that shooting during a standoff with police.This happened about two months after a shooting in January 2018 on 26th Street in Gulfport when a man was shot in the leg.

Police were trying to arrest McMillian on a charge of aggravated assault in this case when gunfire was exchanged between him and the officers. McMillian was shot and killed in the standoff.

The grand jury found no criminal wrongdoing by the officers involved in that shooting.
