Police Explorers Compete In Winterfest

Gulfport police explorers are heading to Gatlinburg tomorrow morning for a national competition.
Eight students are competing against 80 explorer posts from across the country in Winterfest 43.
The categories include active shooter, officer down, unknown trouble, and warrant service.
These young men and women have been training for a year now to showcase their teamwork and law enforcement knowledge on a national level.

“You know you have to go in there with the mindset that I have to do this or something’s going to go wrong and I have to take care of my team as if this was a real situation.”
– Teijah Colston Gulfport Police Explorer

“They get good direction keeping themselves safe in what they do no matter what it is, getting a little bit of that job experience on what to expect and what is expected of them.”
– Officer Raymond Brooks Post Adviser 308, Gulfport Police Department

This is the second time the Gulfport Police Explorer Program is competing in Winterfest in Gatlinburg.
