Picayune Police Department breaks ground on new station
The Picayune Police Department is now breaking ground on a new home.
City officials, council members, and the Picayune Police Department gathered around the site for a ground breaking ceremony where the new police station and courthouse are being built.
Picayune Mayor Jim Luke took the podium, thanking everyone who has played a role in the development of the new police department and courthouse.
The current station was built in 1978 and will be torn down once their new home is complete.
Picayune Police Chief Joe Quave says the new department will make policing more effective. “We’ll be able to communicate quicker, not have to travel as far to see each other, not have to pick up the phone. We’ll all be in the same building. I’m all about efficiency. I like to work hard, but I do like to do that efficiently.”
Construction is expected to take about a year-and-a-half.
