Pearl, MS mother accused of infanticide
Barring a miracle, Pearl police say charges are expected to be upgraded for a mother accused of trying to kill her nine-week-old child.
Makaylia Jolley was arrested Thursday for attempted murder and felony child abuse. Police say 911 calls came in that same day of a woman who had ‘repeatedly and forcibly’ thrown her baby on the road.
Pearl Police Chief Dean Scott says Jolley’s infant daughter is still in critical condition at Children’s Hospital of Mississippi and her outlook is bleak.
The child’s older brother is now living with his grandmother and Jolley is being held in the Rankin County Jail.
We’re told she’s shown zero remorse. Chief Scott said, “We look to be upgrading the mother’s charges to Capital Murder any moment. It’s, uh, it’s just a matter of time before the victim’s death at this point. Her injuries are too severe to even attempt to treat.”
