Pass Christian named one of the safest places to live in Mississippi

Before the annual St. Paul Mardi Gras Parade in Pass Christian, residents and police officers in the city received some recognition.

According to, Pass Christian ranks in the top five safest places to live in Mississippi. Cities with a population greater than 5,000 were eligible to make the list. This ranking is based off of the FBI’s uniform crime report, summarizing the number of property and violent crimes in each city every year.

The Pass Christian Police Department tells News 25 this wouldn’t be possible without the positive relationship between officers and residents. Assistant Police Chief Darren Freeman said, “I think the relationship between the community and the police department is paramount in solving crime and developing a rapport and doing the right thing and helping the community. We are in the service industry. That’s what we are here for, to help the community.”

Freeman tells News 25 residents do a fantastic job communicating when a crime does occur.
