Pascagoula Fire distributes face masks to the community

Face mask distributions to the public are happening all across the country in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Locally, the Pascagoula Fire Department did its part to keep the community healthy by holding a mask distribution today.

Dozens of cars rolled through the parking lot of the Pascagoula Senior Center where the distribution was held from 8 a.m. until noon.

Firefighters handed out the masks that came in packs of five. The distribution was limited to one pack per car.

Training Chief Jon Hyatt says it is rewarding to help the public. “Firefighters are helpers. This is something we do. We love helping the community and giving out masks to protect the citizens and give them personal PPE. It’s something we love to do. They seem to be grateful to get the masks. They’re smiling and are in a good mood.”

This is the second mask distribution for the fire department. Hyatt says he expects more to come in the future.
