Parent Outraged over Lawmaker Reply

“I see that you are not a native of the great state of Mississippi. I appreciate you going to the trouble to share your views with me but, with all due respect, I could care less. I would, however, recommend that there are a large number of like-minded citizens in Illinois that would love to see you return.” This is part of the email reply Gulfport mother Becky Guidry says she received from Mississippi House Representative Karl Oliver of District 46 after asking him to vote against a tax bill in the Legislature that she claimed was irresponsible and benefited corporations over individuals.
While Guidry says she was shocked over Oliver’s alleged response, she appreciates the outpouring of support she’s received since publicizing the emails. “Yesterday, I got an email response from Representative Oliver basically saying, what has been passed around on social media, that my opinion didn’t really count or carry weight because I am not a native Mississippian,” said Guidry.
News 25 reached out to Representative Karl Oliver several times today for a response to Guidry’s allegations. We have not received a reply as of yet.
Guidry has been an outspoken member of Fed up with 50th, the group pressuring lawmakers to fully fund public education.
