Oyster Ball Drop Preparations at the Maritime and Seafood Museum

The Maritime and Seafood Museum in Biloxi will drop the oyster ball right into 2017 for the second year in a row.
Starting at 8:30 Saturday night until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day you can join in on the festivities at the museum.
Executive Director Robin Krohn-David tells News 25 ticket sales have already doubled this year. Hundreds are expected to come out and see the 32 inch wide oyster ball drop down a cable line and into an oyster basket outside of the museum during the countdown to the new year.
There will also be live music, drinks, and hors d’oeuvres. “There’s a moon pie drop in Mobile and then there’s the drop in Pensacola. We’re the seafood industry museum so we wanted something indigenous or familiar with our history and heritage to our area so we picked the oyster ball. They have the pearl in the middle of the oyster. That’s kind of what we thought about when we named it the oyster ball drop,” said Krohn-David.
Tickets are $30 per person and $50 per couple. Call the Maritime Museum tomorrow from 9 to 2 and purchase them. If they don’t sell out, you can purchase them at the door.
