Osprey tower installed at Indian Point in Gautier

Eagles, ospreys, and horn owls now have a place in Gautier to call home.
A new 40 foot osprey tower is now up at Indian Point RV Resort for those looking to bird watch. Eagles, ospreys, and horn owls all nest at different times of the year so you’re bound to catch a glimpse of at least one at some point during the year.
The tower was donated and installed by Singing River Electric. It’s part of an effort to improve conditions that support birds and wildlife at the park, with hopes of making Indian Point a bird watching destination. Gautier City Councilman Hurley Ray Guillotte said, “Mississippi, especially along the Gulf Coast, we’re blessed with a number of birds that come through. From South America they come through here, they’ll stay here for a week or two and then they move north. We are on a flight pattern. I think we had some birders come in here and in an hour, two hour period and saw 50 different types of birds and it’s just unbelievable.”
Because of this effort the Pascagoula River Audubon Center will add this site to the revised Mississippi Coast Birding Trail.
