One person rescued in D’Iberville house fire

Wednesday night, D’Iberville fire and police responded to a house fire and rescued one person from the burning home.

Around 9 p.m. last night, the fire department responded to a residential structure fire on Whetstone Road.

Upon arriving, firefighters discovered heavy flames coming from the rear of the structure.

Fire Chief Gerald Smith credits both D’Iberville fire and police with removing the victim from the structure.

The man they rescued sustained burns to his body and was flown to University of South Alabama Medical Center.

Chief Smith says the crew on hand prevented a situation that could have been much worse. “It was a great job on behalf of the fire and police of D’Iberville. They saved a life tonight. Just one thing that people need to be aware of, make sure your smoke detectors are working–it could save your life.”

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation.
