Old Federal Courthouse demolished

The Old Federal Courthouse building in Biloxi will no longer be an eyesore to the area.

This morning, the property’s new owners, Community Bank, held a ceremony to begin the demolition process on the building which has stood vacant since 2003 on the corner of Lameuse Street and Howard Avenue.

The building will eventually be replaced with a new financial institution. They plan to build a three story bank and it will hopefully be complete in 2019. Community Bank Mississippi Gulf Coast Division President Eric Chambeless said, “It’s just great timing. Timing is everything. It is just great timing with the widening of Howard Avenue to two lanes and then our project coming in and we are looking forward to some of the other great things that will be happening in downtown Biloxi. It will be put up on the corner of Howard and Lameuse Street and kind of mix in with the mayor’s vision of downtown Biloxi.”

CDC Construction Firm is expected to have the site cleared in about 45 days depending on the weather.
