Taking pay raise to the next level at the Ocean Springs Police Department
According to Zip Recruiter, Mississippi ranks number 42 out of 50 states when it comes to police pay, based on December 2020 numbers, but the pay for those who work at the Ocean Springs Police Department is moving on up.
Good news and officers travel quickly here at the Ocean Springs Police Department. Sgt. Johnathon Carroll said, “It was exciting to hear that the police officers, patrolmen, everyone here at the Ocean Springs Police Department is getting a pay raise. That helps out with families, with recruitment, and competitiveness here on the Gulf Coast.”
The raise goes into effect January 9th with entry level officers starting at more than $40,000 a year and up to $53,500 a year for the more experienced officers here.
The new pay structure also opens the door for three percent pay increase steps yearly. Patrolman Parker Bourque says the raise will certainly help on the home front where he has a wife and two kids. “It’s always great. Like I said, anytime more money can come home for my family, or anybody’s family, it’s definitely a great benefit.”
The Ocean Springs Police Department is looking to add a few good men and women to their ranks. Applying is easy. Ocean Springs Mayor Shea Dobson said, “Just go on our website, or go on the Ocean Spring Police Department’s website and they can get your application and go ahead and possibly get you into training.”
Leaders with the Ocean Springs Police Department hope this pay raise serves as an incentive to not only recruit, but also retain, quality police officers who are in it for the long haul.
