Ocean springs house destroyed in fire on Tuesday

On Tuesday, a huge fire destroyed a house on Washington Avenue in Ocean Springs.

The Jackson County District Chief tells News 25 the house was abandoned and it will be some time before an exact cause of the fire is determined.

The house had structural issues before the fire. The building is located on the 6000 block of Washington Avenue beside Queen’s Nails and Day Spa.

Workers and patrons at the nail salon quickly dialed 911 after a customer ran inside to notify them of the fire.

Standing outside, one worker says they felt the heat from the fire and watched flames grow as tall as nearby trees.

No injuries were reported and the fire was contained and did not spread to the nail salon or other nearby structures. Queen’s Nail and Day Spa Receptionist Erica Donaldson said, “It was super close. At one point the owner came back and started spraying down the bushes with a hose to keep the separation from the building.”

The Ocean Springs Fire Department worked alongside the county to contain the fire.

News 25 will have more information when it becomes available.
