Ocean Springs High School placed on shelter-in-place after phone threat; campus cleared by multiple law enforcement agencies

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)-Ocean Springs High School went into a shelter in place for precautionary reasons Monday afternoon.

According to the Ocean Springs School District, the precaution was due to a phone-in threat made to the campus.

Administration immediately notified authorities. The Ocean Springs Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department worked to secure and sweep the campus.

The school district reports that students and staff were not in danger at any point. The campus has been cleared by multiple law enforcement agencies; the high school will remain in shelter-in-place until dismissal at 3:51.

Checkouts are not permitted and visitors may not enter the building.

In a statement on social media, the school district says “The safety and welfare of our students and staff remain the highest priority for OSSD. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Please know that the safety of our students is our #1 priority.”
