New push for medical marijuana
Today an initiative was filed with the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office asking to make medical marijuana accessible to Mississippian’s suffering from debilitating medical conditions.
‘Medical Marijuana 2020’ was filed by a mother whose child suffers from a debilitating disease and is supported by Mississippians for Compassionate Care.
Signatures must be gathered through petitions to qualify this initiative as a constitutional amendment for the 2020 general election ballot.
Ocean Springs Mayor Shea Dobson is on the list of supporters that helped drive the language of the initiative. “We live in a state that does have a lot of financial issues and really this will help bring in some tax dollars to the state. I think this will overall be good for Mississippi in multiple fronts. I believe that the myth that medical marijuana will never be passed in Mississippi will be shattered. I think we will be able to pass this.”
If enacted by the voters in the 2020 general election, this amendment will create a legal process for doctors in Mississippi to prescribe the use of medical marijuana for certain patients. Those patients will be able to obtain medical marijuana from licensed facilities regulated by the Mississippi Department of Health.
