Summer Jamboree Takes Over Jones Park

It may be a hot day, but kids from across the Coast kept cool under the Barksdale Pavilion.
The first ever Summer Jamboree geared toward children with disabilities and special needs kicked off this morning. From 10 until 2, event organizers invited all children, not just ones with special needs, out to the event. You could get your face painted and cool off with free popsicles from Pops Brothers.
The Gulfport Department of Leisure Services came up with the idea for the event and it didn’t take long for Coast companies and organizations to get on board. Brittany Dyess with the Gulfport Department of Leisure Services said, “They get to visit the IMMS, they’re out here with an activity. Disability Connection has an activity. The Humane Society is even doing some pet adoptions. We have a live music performance by the Island School of Performing Art. The Department of Marine Resources has a booth with a hands-on activity.”
Dyess tells News 25 they hope to have this event every summer.
